My adventure with min started in the summer of 5th grade. I remember I didn’t even want to get a tutor, and argued against the idea thinking that it would be boring and a waste of my time. Boy was I wrong. Min was and still is the best tutor that I’ve ever had. Now, I’ve had many other tutors. They were great tutors that were knowledgeable in their respective subjects but weren’t as great, nay, awesome, as the way Min taught me.
Every time I got the right answer and every time I found out how to correctly solve the problem, he would excitingly say, “Yes!” or “Oooh, good job!!” He would joke around with me and was always enthusiastic about what he did. Even when I didn’t understand a certain question or got the wrong answer, he would always be encouraging saying I can do it. When I couldn’t, his explanations were superb. He would relate the problem to games that I enjoyed playing so that I could more easily understand the concept. No other teacher that I’ve had did this. A teacher’s job is to teach their students the concepts and that’s it. For Min, his job was to connect with students, get to know him/her, and make sure that students excelled in whatever they did, whether it be math, english, science, history, college admissions or even life in general, and lead them to be successful.
To me Min is more than a simple teacher/tutor, he is my friend. Someone that I can rely on whenever I needed anything. No other teacher had the quality that Min had, and til this day, he is the only tutor that I still keep in contact with. This is Min Kim.
